The smells and the sights made me feel like I'm NINE, not 29: sea grass, turtle dune holes, historic trees, cobblestone walkways, post office air, port water, Fernandina Beach wind.... I went EVERYWHERE--the good beach accesses, the historic district, our old neighborhood, the grocery store, the one-and-only birthday party McDonald's, Main Beach, Fletcher Ave, Centre Street, 8th Street, 14th Street, my once-favorite downtown gift shop (the coy fish are still there!).
The inside of the post office smells good, but I didn't go in there today. How does that beach smell so good? The Island in the Stinky South doesn't smell like that.
And, I must mention: I ALWAYS find sharks' teeth in Fernandina. No doubt about it!
Sorry Mom--maybe you can go next time...
It was a real-life Back to the Future day. Can't believe it's been 18 years since we lived there. What a blast!
