Big Pink

I got a hair cut the other day.  I wanted something different...  A little shocking maybe?  I absolutely LOVE the outcome!  

I'm calling it "big pink".  It's definitely 90s.  Been listening to Pearl Jam and lots of REM and Nirvana these days and thinking I'm much cooler than I probably really am...  So hence...  Pink hair!  

Have lots to talk about...  Poker winnings, a day at the spa, a couple of GREAT serger classes for the new machine...  Life is pretty good these days, I guess.  Finished a scarf in about two hours on Sunday...  You know, BEFORE the new 'do.

Seven strands held together:  Koigu, Blue Sky Alpaca Silk, Ella Rae Kasbah, Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, Rowan Tweed (that I've had FOR-ever since the FIRST time I ever went to Purl) (two different-colored strands of that), and some Paca Peds.  I'm in love.  It took NO time whatsoever.  

Tonight I made a quickie little linen bag using both the Janome and the serger.  I flat-locked a Japanese kokka scrap to the linen and went to town.  I think it turned out cute.  Originally I made it for a lady at work, but somehow I think this might be added to my little collection...

Just ignore the fuzziness of the photos... These were taken with the iPhone.  

I loved this little scrap since the first day I picked it up at Purl.  Wish I had more of it.  

Have I mentioned how much I absolutely LOVE the serger?  Can't wait to make some easy quickie blankets on it...  Learned some great tricks at the sewing class on Thursday.  Need more hours in the day.

It's cut REALLY different from the previous look, but only cool people actually noticed I got it done.  Boring assholes at work.  Whatever.  I like it.  :)  Goodnight.

I found this cute little doggie linen at Purl on Friday while I was in the City.  This was just what I had in mind for it:

Next up:  A scarf for Roosevelt!  :)  He definitely approves.

The Steph = Astute Card Shark

The Mister created a monster.  In a couple days' time we went from playing practice hands with fruit players at our breakfast table to my taking down a Texas Hold 'em pot of $360 at 7 a.m. at The Borgata in Atlantic City!  What a trip!  

$360 might not sound like all that much, so I'll put it into perspective:  

1 a.m.  Sits down at first ever real-life poker table with a $60 buy-in at a $1, $2 blinds table

1:40 or so...  Knocked out with pocket queens against a guy with aces.  Crushed.

2:40 or so...  B spots me another $60 and I sit down at the table opposite him

3 a.m.  Holding strong with a weak mini-stack of $10 (players at the table kept calling me "stacks")

3:05 a.m.  Goes all-in with a raise of a whopping $2, Takes a "huge" pot of about $55 with a bluff, then starts taking down pot after pot!  (weeeeeee!!)

Between 3:30 and 7 a.m. I never really dipped below $200.  I'm SCARED to DEATH the entire time I'm playing, but the folks at the table were perplexed and seemingly scared of ME!  I took their money time after time.  

At about 7 a.m. I won with a full house of Jacks and Threes against the guy sitting next to me.  There were two jacks on the table, and he had jack + ace.  He thought he would win with his hand, but I pushed all in with my jack + threes and he called.  WOW.  

Where did I get the balls?  Wish I had it on film.   

SO. much. fun!!  A feeling I will never forget.
